Jane Wood
Chief Executive Officer, Scottish Business in the Community, Responsible Business
After being involved with Scottish Business in the Community (SBC) for a long time as a board director and at membership level to be asked in June 2009 to help shape the future of the organisation as its Chief Executive was an honour.
John F Kennedy said, "I’m an idealist without illusions." I am aware of the challenges facing those committed to Corporate Social Responsibility and thrilled to be asked to take it forward at this time, making our challenges in Scotland our opportunities.
We are one of The Prince’s Charities and all our teams are proud to help businesses improve their impact on societies. SBC works with its 50 Full and 20 Associate Members and partners in Scotland, the UK and Europe helping businesses make sense of and benefit from the wide and increasingly important areas of corporate social responsibility. I believe our recent history can inform a better economic future in which responsible business practice will no longer be optional. Companies that do right will do well. And at SBC we are the only organization that can lead the way.
We will lead by responding to business needs. All sectors are looking for ethical and sustainable ways to bring economic advantage to their business and at SBC we want to be at the forefront of that challenge, working with members and communities alike. Working together with them I look forward to building on our achievements to shape a positive future for Scotland. I am a passionate advocate of the power of partnerships, and as Chair of Essential Edinburgh, a BID company representing 600 stakeholder companies, I see for myself how working together brings greater rewards.
Before joining Scottish Business in the Community I worked in the corporate sector as a Director of Communications in a property development company and latterly as Head of Public Affairs for Alliance Boots in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
