Trustee, The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts, Education
I am very pleased to have been part of the The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts from its early stages of formation. We spent a long time developing the remit and the exact focus of the charity and I believe the work that we are doing now is vital to the development of our society.
The arts are what makes us human. They are able to provide beauty and stimulation and inspire creativity. From a young age children should have the opportunity to be exposed to visual arts through a museum, or movement through dance or rhythm through song. And although young people may not know immediately of the effect of the experience, like maths or science, the education will benefit them as they grow. I try very hard to take my children to the wonderful opportunities in London and I am sure the simple exposure is what will make them more humane as they move on in life. Every child should be given that chance
