Young Artists Programme Manager, The Prince’s Drawing School, Education

Hi, I’m Rosie and I’m the Young Artists Programme Manager at The Prince’s Drawing School. I love my job. My team, Henry, Melanie and I, support children who are passionate about drawing.

We aim to build their skills and confidence, and to help them steer themselves towards positive futures in art, design, science and engineering – all sectors that use high-level drawing skills in some way. We work with teachers to identify talented young artists, and then provide them with places at free after-school drawing clubs which run throughout the year.

If what we offer really ‘clicks’ with a student, then they can choose to stay on our programme until they are 18 years old and receive one-to-one mentoring. The drawing clubs are tutored by alumni of The Prince’s Drawing School’s post-graduate programme who want to disseminate what they learned about drawing to the next generation. So, I work with a group of really great practising artists as well. I know all of the kids on the programme and I love to visit them at Drawing Clubs and see the progress they are making. Next summer, I plan to take our students to South West France, to see the oldest drawings in the world on the walls of caves. Drawing has been important to humans for a long time.”
