Charity Next Secondee, Charity Next, The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment
I finished my year long Charity Next secondment from the Department for Transport to The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment in January 2010.
My role at The Foundation required me to expand the remit of my previous work background and embrace a much wider sphere of influences. This has lead to me developing a better understanding of how business and government activities interrelate. This work, along with the highly informative Learning Network events organised for Charity Next participants, has developed my awareness of the nature of governmental involvement in market and social sectors as well as an awareness of the role of not for profit organisations.
Of course the development of my core professional skills was not allowed to suffer whilst working out of my Department… I was able to gain further project management, communications and marketing experience whilst being regarded as a sector expert within the organisation. It really was a fantastic experience for me that offered much more freedom to develop ideas and take them forward than I could expect in a civil service role at this stage of my career.
