Parliament and Monarchy - Charles I and the outbreak of the Civil War
Date: 27th March 2010
Venue: Trafalgar Park
A day devoted to the reign of King Charles I and his role in the outbreak of Civil War with Parliament in 1642. This event will provide an opportunity for teachers to discuss with university academics how scholarship can be applied in the classroom. The aims of the day are for teachers to update their subject knowledge and to learn about the most recent research on Charles I through a series of lectures and seminars. There will also be an opportunity to meet and discuss teaching strategies with other teachers.
A focus on the complex relationship between King and Parliament will enable teachers to update their knowledge on an area of study which is both a vital component of the National Curriculum and a popular A Level topic. Discussions will consider ways in which this subject knowledge can be translated into classroom practice and there will also be a presentation on field studies associated with the period.
