East Ayrshire Council is delighted that Dumfries House, Cumnock has been announced as the venue for an exclusive free taster performance of this summer’s 60th Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Dumfries House was unveiled by Tattoo organisers in Edinburgh along with George Square, Glasgow; Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian and Jedforest Rugby Ground in the Scottish Borders.
The series of free lunchtime events, which are expected to be witnessed by thousands of people across Scotland, will showcase some 500-performers, featuring performers from Canada, Australia, Tonga, Europe and the United Kingdom. The line-up will include audience favourites such as Switzerland’s Top Secret Drum Corps, Highland Dancers from ‘Down Under’, Massed Military Bands, a Tongan cultural troupe, along with the inimitable Massed Pipes and Drums.
Mike Schafer, Chief Executive Officer of The Great Steward of Scotland's Dumfries House Trust added: “We feel very honoured to be selected as one of the four venues for this very special event. Dumfries House will provide a beautiful backdrop for the performance, which we hope will attract people from throughout Ayrshire and beyond.”
Councillor Iain Linton, Depute Leader of the Council said: “This is a real honour for East Ayrshire, and indeed Ayrshire as a whole, to host such an exclusive event. This year’s Edinburgh Tattoo is part of the Scottish Government’s 2009 Homecoming Scotland initiative and these taster performances will give even more people the opportunity to enjoy this incredible spectacle. Dumfries House is a wonderful venue and will provide a beautiful backdrop for the performers. This demonstrates that East Ayrshire is gaining increasing recognition as a vibrant and attractive destination where tourism is playing a vital role in the regeneration of the area.”
The ‘Taste of the Tattoo’ presentation will take place at Dumfries House Estate on Thursday 20 August. Planning of the event is well under way and further details will be announced soon, so look out for further information in the press and don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the show!
