Search for carol concert choir is launched

Britain’s new classical star, 21-year-old Camilla Kerslake (pictured), who was discovered by Take That’s Gary Barlow and signed to his own Future Records label, has announced a nation-wide search for the country’s best amateur choristers who will make their debut at Children & the Arts’ Carol Concert at St. James’ Church, Piccadilly on Friday 11th December.

‘Camilla’s Choir’ will perform for the very first time at the third annual Carol Concert for The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts. The choir will accompany Camilla on her version of the hymn ‘How Can I Keep From Singing’, which features as the soundtrack to this year’s Waitrose TV ad campaign and will appear on her eponymous debut album. They will also sing ‘The First Noel’ with her. Classic FM will record the concert for broadcast later in December. Tickets for the concert are still available here.

Camilla is looking for 16 amazing amateur choral singers from all over the UK - four soprano, four alto, four tenor and four bass. She invites anyone who would like to audition to upload a clip of themselves performing ‘How Can I Keep From Singing’ to her website, or to send in a CD / DVD of their performance to her by Monday 30th November 2009. Details of how to enter are available on Camilla’s website. All entries will be considered by Camilla and her incredible judging panel, which will include Take That’s Gary Barlow.

“I’m so very excited to have this opportunity of putting a choir together,” says Camilla. “This industry is a hard one to break into and I’m glad to be able to help showcase local talent that may otherwise have gone unnoticed! I’m looking forward to seeing all the entries and picking sixteen stars to sing with me at St James’s in December.”
