Jeremy Newton (pictured), Chief Executive of The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts, will be part of a team of twenty running in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on 11th October to raise over £10,000 for Children & the Arts’ work across the country.
Children & the Arts, a charity based in Kensington, has entered a team of runners into the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon, which will be taking place in their own back-yard on 11th October. The course, just over 13 miles long, takes runners past St. James’s and Green Park and past some of London’s landmarks before completing a circuit of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. The charity recruited twenty friends and fundraisers to take part and collectively they aim to raise over £10,000.
The funds raised will give 300 school children access to a year-long programme of professional arts workshops and cultural visits as part of Children & the Arts’ Start programme. Start is a project central to Children & the Arts’ mission to provide children from economically and socially deprived areas of the UK, with a high quality and sustained experience of the arts. This year it is partnering with over 40 arts organisations with 135 schools and over 18,000 children to give them first-hand experience of the arts.
Jeremy Newton, Chief Executive of Children & the Arts, only joined the charity in February of this year but very soon after volunteered to take part in the run. Speaking about the event he said: "I am very excited to be running the half-marathon to support The Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts. The work we do provides opportunities for children all over the country to gain access to our fantastic cultural heritage, which they may otherwise be excluded from. It’s great to take every opportunity we can to raise funds, and also raise awareness of what we do.”
Sara Lom, Chief Executive, Royal Parks Foundation said, “We are delighted that a team from Children & the Arts is entering the Half Marathon for the first time this year. The race raises over £2m for charities all around the UK and Children & the Arts is a great cause worth supporting. We wish them every luck on race day.”
